Ombudsman participated in the seminar on “Safeguards of protection of intellectual property rights: national and international practice of specialized courts”

The Intellectual Property Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the World Intellectual Property Organization jointly organized a seminar on the topic of “Safeguards of protection of intellectual property rights: national and international practice of specialized courts”.

The chairman of the Intellectual Property Agency, Kamran Imanov, representative of the WIPO Judicial Institute, Nahal Zebarjadi, the head of the Department of Legislation and Legal Policy, Gunduz Karimov, Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, rector of Baku State University, Elchin Babayev, acting rector of the Academy of Justice, Elchin Khalafov made presentations with regard to the topic.

The Ombudsman noted that the Presidential Decree On deepening the reforms in judicial-legal system significantly contributed to effectively ensuring the human rights and freedoms. She told that important actions have been taken both in legislative sphere and in the direction of implementation aimed at ensuring intellectual property right that is set out in the Article 30 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

S. Aliyeva emphasized that the protection of intellectual property right, defending interests of intellectual property right holders and prevention of infringements of law in this field are among the priority activity directions of the Ombudsman. It was mentioned that infringement of those rights also violates the rights of consumers and negatively influences the development of the society along with violating the holders’ rights.

At the end of her speech the Ombudsman called everybody to cooperation for the sake of effective protection of the human rights and freedoms.
