Cooperation with the United Nations

Since its establishment, the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan has been actively cooperating with the United Nations (UN). The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights promotes the establishment of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and supports their activities in accordance with the Paris Principles.

The High Commissioner supports NHRIs through the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and regional mechanisms.

NHRIs cooperate with UN treaty bodies and the Human Rights Council by promoting the ratification of international human rights treaties, submitting reports, and providing recommendations. Institutions with “A” status, in line with the Paris Principles, have the right to submit written and oral statements to the UN Human Rights Council.

As a national human rights institution, the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan has regularly participated in relevant sessions of the Human Rights Council, which includes representatives from 47 states. The Ombudsman has submitted nearly 20 written and oral statements on thematic issues, all of which have been published on the official website of the Council.

Additionally, the Ombudsman Institution continues to contribute to the protection of human rights by submitting parallel reports on relevant areas to UN treaty bodies.
