Conference dedicated to International Human Rights Day was held at Institute of Human Rights under Azerbaijan National Academy of Science. E. Suleymanova participated in the conference.
The Commissioner said the essence of a year-long campaign on 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights declared by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights under the motto ‘Stand up for Human Rights” is the call for equality of rights, non-discrimination, participation and cooperation.
It was noted that Ombudsman built her activity in cooperation with governmental bodies, NGOs, with involvement of national minorities, communities, particularly groups of population including women, children, aged persons, refugees, IDPs, migrants, persons with disabilities.
It was added the Commissioner expands her work with international organizations on priority directions; cooperation is continued with UN, and its agencies, particularly, UNHCF, UNICEF, also with OSCE, Council of Europe, European Union, European Ombudsman Institute, Asian Ombudsman Association, International Ombudsman institute, moreover bilateral agreements were signed with Ombudsmen of 15 countries.
Touching upon the important events of the coming year, the Commissioner said that Azerbaijan will submit to relevant treaty bodies in 2018 on Universal Periodic Review, International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Convention on the Rights of the Child, and Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, added that Ombudsman will prepare complimentary reports on each document to the mentioned committees and invited state bodies, academicians, international organizations and NGOs to cooperation.
