The purpose of the event was to increase the capacity-building of participants in the protection of child rights and discuss how to eliminate existing difficulties in the implementation at the national level.

The Chief of the Ombudsman Office, Aydin Safixanli, spoke about broad national relevant reforms in the field of child rights, the harmonization of national legislation with international standards, the role of the Ombudsman Institution as an independent monitoring mechanism in the protection of human rights and freedoms, the work done in the field of protection of various population groups, including children's rights, and the new powers granted to the Ombudsman. Furthermore, he noted the importance of awareness-raising activities held across the country in accordance with 2024 action plan.

At the event, employees of the Child Rights Protection Unit of the Ombudsman Office, Nigar Agayeva and Azer Isali, made presentations about the existing legal frameworks on children's rights, the institutional system and protection mechanisms, the responsibilities of state agencies and local executive authorities operating in this field. In addition, the participants were informed about the Ombudsman's mandate to monitor and promote the implementation of the CRC, issues identified through incoming applications, the UN CommRC Recommendations to Azerbaijan’s fifth and sixth joint periodic reports, as well as the proposals put forward in the Ombudsman's annual reports.
