A meeting was held between the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva and the Prosecutor General Mr. Kamran Aliyev.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed the necessary issues related to the effective protection of human rights and freedoms, as well as exchanged views about the directions of joint cooperation.
During the meeting, they also touched upon the cooperation opportunities on improving the legislation to better ensure human rights, issues arising from the international treaties to which our country is a party, and implementing the recommendations of the international organizations on national legislation.
Furthermore, broad discussions were conducted on the possibilities of application of new approaches in organizing control over the implementation of laws during the investigation, inquiry, and operational-search activities in order to prevent the possible cases of torture or other inhuman, degrading treatment within the framework of the Ombudsman’s National Preventive Mechanism mandate.
It was mentioned that the warnings addressed by the prosecutor's offices to the persons promoting national, racial, social, or religious hatred or enmity through the media and social networks, as well as those spreading false or fake information, play an important role in preventing illegal acts which can occur in the future.
