The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva spoke at the 5th Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsmen Association (OIC OA) held on November 17, 2021, through video-conferencing.
The Chief Ombudsman of Turkey and the President of the OIC OA, Mr. Şeref Malkoç and the Pakistan Federal Tax Ombudsman, and the Secretary-General of the OIC Mr. Asif Mahmood Jah also participated at the event.
Welcoming the guests, the Ombudsman briefed about the human rights violated and still being violated by the Armenian armed forces during the Second Karabakh War and aftermath. She noted that during the Patriotic War, civilians and civilian settlements were deliberately targeted by the Armenian military, human rights and freedoms were severely violated, there was still a landmine problem in the liberated territories, as a result of which both Azerbaijani civilians and servicemen have been still killed and lost their health by those landmines.
Then, the Commissioner informed the participants of the event that 7 servicemen of the Army of Azerbaijan were killed and 10 others were wounded as a result of large-scale military provocation launched by the Armenian military on the state border of Azerbaijan on November 16, 2021.
S. Aliyeva thanked the OIC Delegation for visiting our country at the invitation of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman to investigate human rights violations committed by Armenia during the hostilities on the spot and for preparing a substantiated Mission Report and informing the international community about the outcomes.
The Ombudsman took the opportunity to congratulate Secretary-General of the OIC OA, Asif Mahmoud Jah, on his election as the Federal Tax Ombudsman of Pakistan and wished him success in his new activities.
The sides also exchanged views on the planning of the General Assembly of OIC OA and its future activities.
