The Azerbaijani Ombudsman protested against the Statement made by the Armenian Ombudsman at the 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council

The statement made by the Armenian Ombudsman as the National Human Rights Institute at the 47th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) was protested by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva.

In a letter to the UN Special Department on the Work with NHRIs, Regional mechanisms and Civil Society Institutions, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan stressed the importance of preventing the use of the rostrum created at the HRC for biased purposes in protest of the Armenian Ombudsman's untrue and politically biased statement on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict in order to confuse the international community.

Emphasizing that the Paris Principles adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1993 on the status of national human rights institutions are universal and define the independent and impartial operation of these institutions, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman said that the Armenian Ombudsman Institute, which has become a political propaganda tool of the Armenian Government does not comply with Paris Principles and is not independent. For this reason, S.Aliyeva raised the issue of re-accreditation of that Institute under the UN and downgrading its status.
