Yevlakh District Heydar Aliyev Center hosted an online commemorative event dedicated to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Mr. Sabuhi Abbasov, the Head of the Ombudsman’s Ganja Regional Center has participated in that event.
Mr. Abbasov greeting the participants on behalf of Ms. Sabina Aliyeva, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, spoke about the Great Patriotic War and its consequences, as well as the role of the National Leader in the incorporation of human rights and freedoms into domestic legislation that left beyond economic and political challenges. It was noted that the newly independent Azerbaijan at that time, needed implementation of the human rights in national legislation, development of human rights protection mechanisms in line with international standards and taking urgent reforms in this regard.
Consequently, the most important step in this direction was the adoption of the Constitution of Azerbaijan during the referendum in 1995, developed by the Commission headed by the National Leader. State Program on the Protection of Human Rights (1998) signed by Heydar Aliyev laid the groundwork for the protection of human rights at the national level. Such developments also included the adoption by the Parliament of the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman in 2001 and the establishment of the national ombudsman institution based on that Law. The policy of National Leader today is successfully continued by the President Ilham Aliyev, whose diplomacy paved the way for the restoration of the violated rights of refugees and IDP compatriots that sooner will return to their homes.
Participants in the online event shared their views about the remarkable activities of Heydar Aliyev and expressed their respect for his memory.
In addition, a similar online commemorative event has been jointly organized by the Ombudsman’s Sheki Regional Center and Gabala and Oguz District Heydar Aliyev Centers.
