Ombudsman keeps in focus the health status of Afgan Sadigov

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva keeps under the focus of attention the status and ensuring the rights of Afgan Sadigov, who is currently under the custody in Baku Pre-Trial Detention Facility of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice.

According to the instructions of the Ombudsman, in the course of the visit to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility, the members of the National Preventive Mechanism have twice talked, in a confidential manner, to A. Sadigov who was reportedly refused to eat. During the interview, the detainee substantiated his hunger strike for the unbiased investigation of his criminal case and discontent with the judgement.
 
During the reception, which was also attended by a doctor member of the NPG, he was given relevant recommendations to restore food intake to avoid serious health problems, and the administration of the Facility and the medical unit to keep his health status under medical supervision. A. Sadigov was informed about his rights and the competences of the Ombudsman.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the health status of the detainee concerned having being watched through daily contact with the administration and medical and sanitary unit of the Pre-Trial Facility and his family members were informed about respectively.  

In addition, based on the application by the Sadigov’s lawyer to the Ombudsman, the latter has also appealed to Baku Court of Appeal.
