The issue of the Azerbaijani Prisoners of War is in the center of attention of the Ombudsman

On 12 November 2020, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has sent appeals to international organizations concerning the facts of torture and humiliating treatment of the prisoners of war of Azerbaijani origin, being held as POWs as a result of military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan continued since September of 2020, in severe violation of international and humanitarian  law principles.   

The appeals have contained the facts of inhuman treatment of the Azerbaijani soldiers who had been taken prisoners by the Armenian armed forces and demanded from the addressees to conduct appropriate investigation, to take necessary actions to establish international legal responsibility for this humanitarian law violations to bring the perpetrator Armenian military and political leadership that grossly violated human rights and freedoms committing acts amounting war crimes and to return our soldiers in conformity with international law norms.

From the very beginning, the Ombudsman has very closely followed the issue of Azerbaijani soldiers Amin Musayev and Bayram Karimov, captured by the Armenian military. Therefore, other appeals to the ICRC and UN relevant specialized agencies have already been prepared.
