Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman hosted an online event in the frame of the Child Rights Month Campaign

Ganja Regional Center of Ombudsman has organized an online event on the protection of child rights jointly with the City Child and Youth Development Center in the frame of the "Children's Rights Month" announced by the Ombudsman in the country from October 20 to November 20.

During the meeting, the head of the Regional Center Sabuhi Abbasov gave detailed information about international and domestic standards in the field of child rights and spoke about the glorious victory of the Azerbaijani army in the Patriotic War.

During the discussions, it was noted that civilian population were severely damaged, as well as civilian houses, historical and cultural monuments, large shopping malls and other public facilities were severely damaged as a result of rocket attacks on the city of Ganja by the Armenian armed forces in gross violation of international humanitarian law. The attacks also severely influenced on psychological health of the victims and their relatives, including four children who lost both parents. The speaker underlined the importance of international legal assessment of as a gross violation of international human rights law, IHL, the right of children to life and healthy development under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The meeting participants were also informed about statements and appeals of the Ombudsman addressed the international community, including UNICEF, calling to react the violations of child rights committed by Armenia. S. Abbasov noted that the Ombudsman carried out several fact-finding missions and prepared reports for the international organizations.

At the event, participants-students of the Ganja Child and Youth Development Center shared their knowledge on child rights.

In conclusion, the director of the Ganja Child and Youth Development Center Sevinj Alakbarova thanked for the organization of the event, emphasizing the importance of such legal awareness-raising activities on child rights.
