Press Statement of the Ombudsman

Continuing its war crimes and repeatedly violating the next humanitarian ceasefire starting since 08:00 a.m. 26 October 2020, the Armenian armed forces have intensively shelled Barda city of Azerbaijan from different directions and using rockets and artillery, killing four civilians and wounding thirteen more. Among the killed and wounded, there were also children. These numbers may rise since there are people beneath the rubble.

This terror against civilians demonstrates once again that the occupying Armenians violated international law as well as IHL, especially the Geneva Convention (IV) and the UNSC Resolutions. It has not yet renounced its aggressive policy of committing war and terror, crimes against peace and humanity, in a gross violation of the CRC and other human rights instruments.

Unfortunately, the lack of serious measures by international organizations to deter Armenia from inhumane acts makes them even more depraved and encourages them to commit new crimes.

The world community should not be indifferent to the extremely cruel, ruthless and inhumane acts committed by Armenia. It must demand Armenia to unconditionally withdraw its occupying forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and effective measures must be taken to punish those responsible for the killing of civilians.
