Sabina Aliyeva informed a new ambassador of Pakistan on the military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Ms. Sabina Aliyeva received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Azerbaijan, Mr. Bilal Haye.

During the meeting, the Commissioner congratulated the ambassador on his new appointment and expressed hope for the furtherance of mutual cooperation with the Ombudsman Office.

She was satisfied with the the developed historical relations and the growing development of these relations in the economic, social, cultural and other fields between two countries, Ms. Sabina Aliyeva said. Emphasizing that Pakistan was one of those first countries that recognized independence of Azerbaijan, the Ombudsman underlined that two countries have always supported each other at all levels in the international arena.

Ms. Aliyeva then briefed about the intentional military attacks by Armenia on the cities either located along or far from the frontline, including Horadiz city of Fuzuli District, Barda, Aghdam, Agjabedi, Tartar, Jabrayil, Beylagan, Khizi and Absheron districts, and Ganja and Mingachevir cities with using of heavy artillery starting since 27 September 2020.    

Ombudsman added that in contrast to the general rules of international law, international humanitarian and human rights laws, Armenian military forces use internationally prohibited cluster munitions and other weapons to target civilians and densely populated civilian objects. She said that these artillery attacks have resulted in multiply civilain casualties among peaceful population, including those who are vulnerable, especially children, women, elderly and persons with disabilities. Also it was stated that those missile strikes caused serious damages, including destruction of civilian houses, historical and cultural and administrative buildings, educational facilities,hospitals and other social objects.    

At the meeting, the Ombudsman touched upon the Fact-Finding Missions to investigate the facts of the violations of human rights and freedoms on the spot to enlighten the international community, and the Mission Reports, prepared based on the findings, sent also to international organizations. 

In its turn, the Ambassador, Mr. Bilal Haye said that he was regularly informed about the activity of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan through the regular updates of press service, and got familiarized with all Mission Reports of the Ombudsman Institution submitted to the international organizations. Furthermore, he said that he was also on official visit in Ganja on 11 October, when Armenia shelled the heavily populated ares, residential apartments, civilian objects to get aquainted with the scene of destructions on site.  

Mr. Haye also noted that local television channels in Pakistan regularly broadcast news about Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan, and about the counter offensive military operations of Azerbaijan to liberate its own occupied territories in which Pakistan always support Azerbaijan’s just position.

At the end, the Commissioner personally thanked the Ambassador of Pakistan for his country's support of Azerbaijan at all levels in this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of the attention and support of the international community, including the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

In turn, the Ambassador also thanked Ms. Sabina Aliyeva for her warm reception and added that he would inform his own Government in Pakistan, given the importance of the issues raised by the Commissioner during the Meeting.
