Ganja Regional Center of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan jointly with Gazakh District Youth and Career Development Center held an online legal awareness event “Non-judicial human rights protection mechanisms: mediation institution” in Gazakh Branch of Baku State University. The event was organized to increase the awareness of students with specialization in social work, staff of the district Youth and Sport Department and district Youth Center and of active young people.
During his speech, the head of Ganja Regional Center, Sabuhi Abbasov gave broad information about non-judicial human rights protection mechanisms, the competences of the Ombudsman, application and handling procedures and the work of the Commissioner as the National Preventive Mechanism. He also spoke about the legal reforms that were being continued in the last period of time, including improvement of the national judicial-legal system and adoption of new laws. From this perspective, a mediation institution that is to be established at the national level as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism would be effective in reducing conflicts and settlement of disputable matters.
S. Abbasov also informed the participants of the online meeting about the mediation principles, rights and duties of a mediator and parties to the dispute, mediator qualification requirements, mediation principles, civil cases, economic, family and labor disputes etc. and answered the questions raised.
