Ombudsman Office and UNICEF signed a joint action plan

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva received the UNICEF Representative to Azerbaijan, Edward Carwardine. 

During the meeting the Ombudsman brought to attention the effective collaborative relations, joint actions and important projects implemented with the UNICEF and expressed her confidence on continuing further cooperation at a new level.
Sabina Aliyeva spoke about activities carried out in the field of protection and promotion of the rights of the child, education and monitoring in this field, as well as the actions taken on protecting the rights of persons with limited physical capacities in independent monitoring mechanism.

E.Carwardine highly appreciated the activity of the Ombudsman in the field of protection of the rights of various groups of population, including children, and the joint work carried out within the framework of the National Preventive Mechanism in the state child facilities.

In accordance with an action plan issues such as drawing social workers and lawyers to support the child component of the National Preventive Mechanism, preparation of reports on the status of the rights of children in conflict with the law in the country, raising awareness about the Ombudsman’s activities, as well as the necessary social services for children were the main topic of discussion.

Later, the sides exchanged views on the establishment of a single hotline service of the Ombudsman, which was included in the “The National Action Plan on Promotion of the Open Government for 2020-2022” and is intended to address child rights violations; they also discussed the perspectives of future cooperation on the signed action plan.

This was noted that the assessment and monitoring the needs of government agencies, law enforcement and local authorities in terms of accessing social services, and proposals for the child protection system are one of the main objectives.

Expressing his gratitude to the Ombudsman for warm reception and broad exchange of opinions, the guest expressed his interest in future bilateral cooperation. 

As a result, a joint action plan was signed between the Ombudsman Office and UNICEF.
