The Ombudsman received an Ambassador of the United States of Mexico in Azerbaijan

Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, received Ms. Maria Victoria Romero Caballero, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United States of Mexico in our country.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman comprehensively informed the guest about her activities in the field of the protection of human rights and freedoms. Speaking about the importance of collaboration with international institutions, she stressed the existing close partnerships with ombudsmen and national human rights institutions of other countries. The Comissioner also noted that several memoranda of understanding have been signed with various organizations.

S. Aliyeva touched upon the recent amendments to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, emphasized the expansion of her mandate in the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and the rights of children, promoting equality, and preventing discrimination.

At the meeting, it was emphasized the significance of the activities in the field of promoting and ensuring gender equality and protecting women’s rights, and the positive experiences in the relevant field and future collaboration opportunities were exchanged.

Providing information about several significant international events hosted and the achievements attained by our country in recent years, the Ombudsman said that in 2024, Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Ambassador Maria Victoria Romero Caballero, in her turn, thanked the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, for the warm reception.

During the meeting, prospects for strengthening collaboration between the ombudsman institutions of both countries and a range of other issues of mutual interest were discussed.
