The head of Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman participated at meetings held with young people voting for the first time in municipal elections.
The importance of municipal elections, the right to vote and youth activity were discussed at the event titled “Your vote, your choice” organized by Ganja Youth and Sport Head Office, in the University of Technology of Azerbaijan (UTECA). The rector of the UTECA, Akif Suleymanov; the head of the Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman, Sabuhi Abbasov; head of unit in Ganja Youth and Sport Head Office, Rashad Alizada; chairman of the Kapaz fisrt (Ganja) constituency election commission #39, Elbar Ahmadov; the deputy chairman of organization of Council of Older persons in Ganja city, Huseyn Valiyev; head of UTECA Department of Public Administration and Commerce, also the professor Fuzuli Mammadov and a staff member of Ganja branch of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, holder of presidential scholarship, Elnur Hasanov delivered speeches.
Further, on December 19, Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman and Tovuz district Executive Authority jointly organized an awareness raising event on the topic “Implementation of the right to vote” for local residents and the youth voting for the first time in municipal elections.
Head of Ganja Regional Center of the Ombudsman, S.Abbasov, staff member of the Tovuz District Executive Authority, Bahruzar Rustamov, a representative of constituency election commission #135, Pusta Panahova made speeches at this event.
In the course of the event, it was mentioned that everyone has a right to take part in the government of his country directly or through freely chosen representatives according to Article 21.1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Each state should establish guarantees for implementation of the voting rights of citizens. It’s also envisaged in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan. According to Article 56, the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan have the right to elect and to be elected to state bodies, as well as the right to participate in referendum.
The participation of staff members of the Ombudsman Office in elections in the country as independent observers, good practices of holding democratic and transparent elections were also noted in the event. The participants were also informed in detail about the provisions of the Election Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organizing the voting process, actions to be taken by voters on the day of election, rules of appealing against infringements of voting rights.
