Recently, an educational tour was arranged by the “Clean City” (“Temiz Sheher”) OJSC to Balakhani Solid Waste Sorting and Solid Waste Incineration plants for members of Leadership School under Azerbaijan Child and Youth Peace Network, the Resource Center of the Ombudsman on Child Rights at the initiative and proposal of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Elmira Suleymanova.
A short film was demonstrated to students about the activity of the plant at its administrative building. The Director of the Plant informed the students on working principles and answered their questions. Students watched the work process via monitors installed in and got relevant information.
Students also visited Incineration plant in order to watch the process of decontamination of waste, which is not proper for sorting. It was told that incineration of waste results in generating electricity, which makes it possible to provide electricity for any district of the country during a year.
At the end of the tour, members of the Leadership School visited the Museum “From waste to Art” organized by “Clean City” at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and with support of IDEA, got acquainted with its history, aim and activity, art works demonstrated in international exhibition and presented their own handicrafts to the museum.
It should be mentioned, regular awareness-raising meetings forms a basis for educating children in the spirit of protecting environment and efficient use of natural resources, forming their ecological consciousness, preserving biological diversity, as well as emergence of new ideas on properly dealing with waste, getting alternative energy, preparing new products and art pieces, collecting and utilazing solid waste.
The Commissioner’s specialized adviser on ecological rights Gulnar Rahimova delivered a speech noting the Ombudsman’s relevant activities, events on protection and promotion of ecological culture, as well as collaboration and joint measures with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The Commissioner’s gratitude was conveyed to administration of the OJSC for the arrangement of this event.
