Representatives of the Commissioner attended event on gender-based

The next event of the project “Gender violence-tragedy of our society” was held at school No.142 in Baku city Bilgah settlement at the initiative of Sabunchu District Executive Power.

Staff members from the Sabunchu District Executive Power, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, as well as principal of the school, teachers, students and parents attended the event. Representatives  of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Lamiya Zeynalova and Vafa Verdieva participated at the event as well.

The participants firstly viewed the art pieces and wall newspapers prepared by the schoolchildren with regard to the topic. Students also demonstrated short plays devoted to gender-based violence.  

L.Zeynalova made a speech and emphasized that the Commissioner pays special attention to the issue of ensuring gender equality. It was mentioned that systematic measures are implemented for more reliable protection and promotion of women’s rights, empowering them to take part in the public-political life of the country and attaining equal opportunities between men and women. It was further noted the Ombudsman also attaches importance to awareness-raising activity for elimination of  cases like domestic violence, early marriage and evasion from education.

At the end, diplomas were awarded to the students by Sabunchu District Youth and Sport Department for their active participation in the project.
