According to the 64th Presidential Pardon Order of 24 May, 2018 dedicated to centenary of Azerbaijan People’s Republic, 634 convicts were granted a pardon.
Taking into consideration the appeals of a number by inmates and their families, the Commissioner for Human Rights addressed solicitation to the President, which resulted at pardoning of 72 imprisoned persons this year; whereas in general, during term of office of the Commissioner totally 638 prisoners were granted with pardon upon her solicitation.
On this occasion, the Commissioner attended the ceremony of presentation of certificates of release to prisoners at penitentiary facilities No.1, 4,6 and 15 and the medical institution of the Penitentiary Service. At the ceremony, she stated that up to date 11 amnesty acts were adopted and 64 Pardon Orders were signed, as a result of which a great number of inmates were liberated and returned to their families. The Commissioner also noted that this Order differs from the previous ones as it has more broad scope covering 634 persons.
Later, prisoners have had their certificates of release.
