Azerbaijani Ombudsman attended General Assembly of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions

Azerbaijani Ombudsman attended General Assembly of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, regional meetings of European National Human Rights Institutions and plenary sessions on priority issues in Geneva.  

In the first day of the trip Ombudsman attended an event of European Network of National Preventive Mechanisms. She shared her views on activity within the framework of NPM and gave her proposals on perspectives of future cooperation.

Next day she participated in General Assembly of Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, regional meetings of European National Human Rights Institutions and plenary sessions on issues of aged persons, persons with disabilities and migrants, had exchange of views with the high-ranking officers and members of NHRIs.

The Copenhagen Declaration was adopted at the regional meeting of the European National Human Rights Institutions and according to the document involvement of these institutions in the execution of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights was promoted.

The Committee together with Global Alliance also adopted a Declaration whereas countries are encouraged to create an independent monitoring mechanism in line with the Convention in case there is no such mechanism and to involve persons with disabilities in their activities.

It should be noted that Azerbaijani Ombudsman is functioning as a National Human Rights Institution that fulfils the functions of independent monitoring mechanism provided in Article 33.2 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

During the above-mentioned events the Commissioner met and shared her views with chief representatives of GANHRI, European Network of National Human rights Institutions, as well as of National Human Rights Institutions of America, Europe and Asian regions including Turkey and Central Asia.  She also expressed her concern about the disorder in procedures of accreditation of the NHRIs.
