Delegation of Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities was received at the Ombudsman Office

Aydin Safikhanli, Head of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Office received Delegation of Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Guests gave information about the activity directions of the Committee they represent, asked questions about the situation of national minorities in Azerbaijan and the work carried out by the Commissioner in this regard.

A.Safikhanli informed them about the reforms carried out in the country for protection of the rights of national minorities, Commissioner’s mandate, competences and activity for protection of human rights, as well as the rights of different strata of people, including national minorities, ethnic groups. He added that every person regardless of their race, nationality, religion and language can appeal the Commissioner.

He also informed the guests about targeted and deliberately attack of Armenian armed forces on the civilians and civilian entities in Alkhanli village of Fizuli rayon of Azerbaijan with 82 and 120 mm mortars and heavy grenade launchers. As a result of which, the aged Allahverdiyeva Sahiba born in 1967 and her 2 years old granddaughter Guliyeva Zahra died, another woman civilian Guliyeva Salminaz born in 1965 was heavily injured and civilian entities were destroyed. The relevant statement of the Commissioner was presented to them.

Other questions of the delegation were also responded.
