The delegation led by Sabina Aliyeva, the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, participated in the thematic session “Business and Human Rights: The Role and Experiences of NHRIs” within the GANHRI 2024 Annual Meeting, held in Geneva.
During the session, the Ombudsman informed the participants about the activities in the field of business and human rights, underscoring the cooperation with international institutions, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
It was further noted that a national baseline assessment in the relevant field was generated this year and submitted to the UNDP, adding to that, a number of gatherings in this field also took place. The Ombudsman also highlighted the measures taken to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into a national legal framework.
S.Aliyeva, also said that broad consultations and discussions were arranged to learn perspectives and good experiences in Azerbaijan relating to this field, pointing out that the relevant initiatives for the protection and promotion of human rights have been continuing.
Current trends and challenges in relation to human rights in business activities were discussed at the session, which was assembled to exchange positive practices of NHRIs in the relevant field.
During the visit, the Ombudsman, S. Aliyeva, convened with Livio Sarandrea, the UNDP Global Adviser for Business and Human Rights, where the sides discussed the national baseline assessment on business and human rights.
