Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva held a meeting with the President   of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye

Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva held a meeting with the delegation, led by the President of the Turkish Constitutional Court, Kadir Özkaya. 

Greeting the delegation members, the Ombudsman provided them with detailed information about her mandate and activities in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms.

S. Aliyeva, outlining the international cooperation, including with international institutions, ombudspersons, and NHRIs of other countries, emphasized the existing close partnership with the Turkish Ombudsman Office and the Turkish Institution of Human Rights and Equality.

The Ombudsman also talked about fruitful collaboration between the Ombudsman Office and the Constitutional Court of the country towards further effective safeguarding human rights, adding that the Court is addressed with inquiries.  

While underlining amendments to the related Constitutional Law, the Ombudsman said the mandate was expanded in relation to the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and children, promotion of equality and anti-discrimination, as well as the right of access to information and other fields.    

Nearly 4000 compatriots had been reported missing during the First Karabakh War, about whom no information is available until today, the contamination of our areas with mines by Armenia during the occupation period, the threat imposed by those landmines to the lives and health of civilians, the return of former IDPs to their homes, and to the building and construction works in the region, said the Ombudsman, while speaking about the military aggression of Armenia against our country. 

In addition, it was given information about war-time and post-war fact-finding missions carried out by the Ombudsman, highlighting the result-based mission reports, including special reports, statements, and appeals that were submitted to the corresponding international organizations, foreign ombuds and NHRIs.

In turn, Kadir Özkaya expressed his gratitude to the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, for the warm reception. 

Meanwhile, the sides have discussed several issues of mutual interest, and the delegation members were presented with hard copies of reports produced by the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan.
