A round table pertinent to the electoral rights of citizens' in early parliamentary elections was organized at this time in Massali jointly by the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan and the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Valida Kazimova, a member of the Commission, underlined the significance of such awareness-raising events prior to the early parliamentary elections and that these joint events are very fruitful for the purpose of increasing the knowledge of all voters.
The member of the Commission briefed the activities done and planned by the Commission, highlighting that these works will be going on.
Aydın Safikhanli, the head of the Ombudsman Office, outlined the requirements set forth in paragraph 3.10 of the "National Action Program in the field of increasing the efficiency of the protection of human rights and freedoms in the Republic of Azerbaijan," approved by the Presidential Decree dated December 27, 2011. He summed up the awareness-raising initiatives being done for the purpose of preparation for the elections, too.
It was said that awareness-raising activities were arranged in Baku and the districts at the initiative of the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva in joint cooperation with the CEC. Events have already been scheduled in Ganja and Sheki, with the latest taking place today in Masalli.
A. Safikhanli talked about comprehensive measures being implemented to more effectively ensure citizens' active and passive electoral rights at the national level, and informed the participants about the importance of the observation institution and the role of the Ombudsman in this process.
Then, Shirzad Mammadli, the Chief Advisor of the Organization Department of the CEC Secretariat, delivered a presentation focusing on measures being taken to ensure high standards in the organization of elections, the work carried out by the Commission, and the opportunities created for voters to freely exercise their constitutional rights.
There were discussions on the topic, where the questions of the participants were answered.
It must be noted that the first joint awareness-raising event on the early parliamentary elections was held in Baku with the participation of Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov, and representatives of the district election commissions.
