Sabina Aliyeva, the Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, participated at the event on the theme “Intellectual Property Rights and Innovations for a Green World (Towards COP29)”.
In her speech, the Ombudsman noted that climate change, as a current global crisis of the contemporary world, adversely affects sustainable development of the world and the social well-being of people. The importance of extended application of modern technologies in combating climate change was emphasized.
Noting the increased role of intellectual property in all areas of public life in recent years as a result of the wide usage of the internet, the Ombudsman stressed the significance of creating balance in the protection of intellectual property rights through using new and green technologies, which will increase the accessibility to innovative solutions.
The Ombudsman, who underscored that ensuring intellectual property rights creates a foundation for the realization of a number of fundamental rights, and emphasized the necessity of further enhancing the existing cooperative relations between the Agency of Intellectual Property Rights and the Ombudsman Office.
Sabina Aliyeva also noted the importance of hosting the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) by our country, adding that within the frame of this period, the COP29 International Baku Forum of Ombudspersons was held, where challenges created by climate change and their solutions were discussed.
