Ombudsman’s Reaction to the Biased Statements by the US Congressmen Against Our Country

The false statements made by the US Congressmen Frank Pallone and Ed Markey in the United States regarding their visit to our country after their participation in the prestigious event, such as the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29) cause profound dissappointment.

The claims made by the Congressmen regarding the situation in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan once again  demonstrate their biased stance against our country. Instead of the approaches that did not reflect the truth, we would have expected those Congressmen to bring up the issues of ensuring the right to return of hundreds of thousands of compatriots forcibly displaced from the territory of the present-day Armenia due to their ethnic background and their right to a safe and dignified return to their homes without any discrimination.

Furthermore, we would like to recall to these Congressmen that, as a result of the policy of occupation and illegal territorial claims of Armenia to our state, twenty percent of the internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan had been occupied by this country for about thirty years, and more than one million Azerbaijanis became forced displaced.

However, instead of facilitating actions to establish lasting peace in the region in this sensitive period, today, we are witnessing the position of Frank Pallone and Ed Markey aim to create new conflict zones.  Pelloni's reference in his speech to the name of an illegitimate "entity" that the United States does not even recognize, as well as its "leader," who has been accused of war crimes and subjected to the investigation, amounts to interference in the internal affairs of another country and a disregard for universally recognized norms and principles of international law. This is the best answer to the question, "Which political circles does this congresswoman serve?"

Furthermore, I would like to draw attention to the fact that these congressmen have once again demonstrated their bias by remaining silent about Armenia's landmine terror, which has killed civilian populations, including women, children, and the elderly, as well as by not informing Azerbaijan about the whereabouts of the nearly 4,000 Azerbaijanis who have gone missing since the First Karabakh War.

It is clear evidence that Congressman Pelloni is intolerant of freedom of speech and press due to his avoidance of questions posed to him by representatives of independent media outlets during COP29 and his subsequent attempt to justify this with unfounded claims.

I once again condemn the baseless and biased statements made by U.S. Congressmen, clearly driven by the directives of the Armenian lobby, and I urge them to respect international law and refrain from attempts to incite ethnic violence.
