The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the first international meeting of the Turkic World Mediators Union held in Ankara, Türkiye.
During her speech, the Ombudsman emphasized the importance of the mediation process in ensuring mutual respect between the parties to the human rights disputes and creating the concessionary environment.
The Commissioner added that the mediation process plays a significant role not only in achieving consensus between the parties based on dialogue and agreement but also in establishing peace and justice in society.
Sabina Aliyeva said that the mediation technique is widely used when examining the incoming applications to the Ombudsman Office, prioritizing direct dialogue and peace between the parties. She highlighted the importance of advocating for moral principles among state authorities and working within the legal framework to restore human rights that have been violated. In addition, the Ombudsman emphasized the need for coordinated services and systematic preventive measures to address potential societal problems.
Sabina Aliyeva, while noting the existing close cooperation between the Ombudsman Office and the Mediation Council, also gave information about joint effective work in the investigation of complaints, advancing legislation in the relevant field, and awareness-raising activities.
The Ombudsman said that within the frame of the legal awareness activities, a range of events to promote the further increasing of the quality of state services, good governance, as well as alternative solutions to disputes were held by considering modern trends.
In the course of this first international meeting, the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, also took part in the event titled “Garabagh Night.” In her speech, the Ombudsman stressed the importance of the victory gained as a result of the Second Karabakh War for the entire Turkic world, as well as establishing peace and tranquility in the world and building new relations in the entire region.
The Ombudsman reminded with pleasure of the active participation of the Turkish Chief Ombudsman and a chair of the Human Rights and Equality Institute of Türkiye in the fact-finding missions conducted in the liberated territories, adding of this country’s constant rightful position of Azerbaijan.
The Commissioner noted that at present, the return of our former IDPs’ to their homes and building and construction works are being carried out in the liberated areas.
