The Ombudsman’s Northwest Regional Center held events on the theme “National and international human rights mechanisms” in honor of the 10th December- “ International Human Rights Day” in Dashja village in the Gabala district and Sheki Regional College. The local executive authorities and municipalities, other entities and organizations, teaching staff, students, and the community members took part in these event.
When speaking, Parviz Mammadov, the head of the Regional Center, said that the Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted on 10th December, 1948, by the UN General Assembly, and since 1950, this date is marked annually as a human rights day across the globe.
It was noted that this document set forth the universal frameworks for all human rights by all States and has been signed by the vast majority of the Member States.
It was noted that Azerbaijan has also joined this UN document, after restoring its independence in the late XX cc., and that human rights reforms started by the National leader Heydar Aliyev and continued by the country’s President, Ilham Aliyev, are primarily based on protection of human rights and freedoms.
The participants were also informed about the UN human rights mechanisms, international treaties ratified by our State, legal reforms carried out at the national level, and the Ombudsman’s multifaceted activity in the field of human rights and freedoms.
