The Ombudsman’s South Regional Center held an awareness-raising event at the Jalilabad State Vocational Education Center (VEC) within the framework of the international campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”.
Speaking at the event, which was attended by the pedagogical staff and students of the VEC, the head of the Regional Center, Ziya Ismayilov, noted that our Constitution and national and international normative and legal documents that our state is a party to establish equality rights, and the inadmissibility of discrimination and violence against women.
It was emphasized that the accession of Azerbaijan to the CEDAW and CRC, the formation of state women and child policy, the improvement of the legal framework, and the adoption of the national Laws "On Guarantees of Gender (Men and Women) Equality" and "On Prevention of Domestic Violence" are important steps.
Z. Ismayilov noted that gender-based violence instances cause obvious negative attitudes and intolerance in society, which still remain a problem in many countries, and they pave the way for domestic violence.
Z. Ismayilov spoke about international practice such as providing financial assistance to victims of violence, regular implementation of control and preventive measures, establishment of specialized hotlines, and activities of assistance centers and shelters that provide rehabilitation and safety to victims of violence in order to prevent such instances.
The lecturer said that the Ombudsman constantly keeps focus on the protection of the women’s rights in our country, like all population groups, and made a presentation on the multifaceted activities carried out in this area.
