During these days, the head of the Department for the Protection of the Right to Information, Lamia Zeynalova, and the head of the Unit for Ensuring the Right to Information, Aynur Hamidova, of the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan, participated in the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) on the topic of "Bridging Information Across Nations: Concretizing the Global Role of Access to ?nformation for Democratic Preservation, Inclusivity, and Development” held in Manila, the Philippines by the Philippine government.
It should be noted that within the framework of Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva's international cooperation activities, cooperation has been established with the mentioned international non-governmental organization, and the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan has become an institutional member of that organization with the aim of expanding activities in the field of the right to information in the international arena.
The purpose of the conference was to exchange ideas on strengthening the role of information commissioners in the field of protection and promotion of the right to access information and learning from good experiences.
While making a presentation in the conference, L. Zeynalova gave extensive information about the activities carried out by the Ombudsman in the field of protecting the right to access information. Touching upon the problem of disseminating false information that does not reflect the truth on social media during the war period, which limits people's access to accurate information, the speaker provided concrete examples of such actions perpetrated by Armenia during the Second Karabakh War. Furthermore, it was highlighted that during the occupation period, our liberated territories have been extensively mined by Armenia, and the accurate mine maps have not yet been handed over to our country, which has resulted in numerous civilian casualties.
At the end, the ICIC officials summarized the outcomes of the conference, including the position of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman, and emphasized the importance of support from ICIC members for the ongoing efforts in resolving the existing landmine problem in our liberated territories.
