
The Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (HREİT) and the Office of Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, continue conducting joint activities to extend mutual and effective cooperation to protect freedoms and human rights and share experiences according to the MoU between them.
At the invitation of HREİT Chairman Muharrem Kılıç, a delegation headed by Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva took part in an experience exchange program in Gaziantep, Türkiye, to share national preventive mechanism experiences and further develop cooperation in this field.
The temporary detention facility of the police department and open penitentiary institution in the Gaziantep Şehitkamil District were monitored during the visit. The delegation members closely familiarized themselves with the reforms established in these institutions according to the legislation, the facilities created for detainees, general detention conditions, and the situation of protection of rights of detained persons, as well as the established practices.
The delegation members also visited the office of the HREİT newly opened in Gaziantep. The delegation members were given detailed information about HREIT’s first regional office. The longstanding experience shared by Sabina Aliyeva regarding the regional centers of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman was met with great interest. Both institutions exchanged views and experiences on their areas of activity, and questions were answered mutually.
As part of the visit, meetings were also held with Fatma Şahin, the Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Mehmet Tahmazoğlu, the Mayor of Şahinbey District, Kemal Çeber, the Governor of Gaziantep, and İsmail Karataş, the Chief Prosecutor of Gaziantep.
