The Ombudsman attended the GANHRI 2025 Annual Meeting

A delegation led by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, participated in the next Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), held in Geneva.

The Ombudsman spoke at the event, which was attended by heads and representatives of NHRIs, as well as representatives of international organizations and experts from around the world, and discussed issues on the agenda.

The Ombudsman also addressed the thematic session on “Human Rights of Women and Girls, Promoting Gender Equality: the Role of NHRIs” during the annual meeting and detailed her activities in the relevant field.

The Ombudsman emphasized that activities aimed at more efficient protection of women's rights, support services for victims of violence, and expanding economic and social opportunities for women are constantly focused on. Speaking about the activities to promote gender equality and protect women's rights, Sabina Aliyeva said that numerous initiatives have been taken by the Institution to improve the legislation.

The Ombudsman noted that complaints about violations of women's rights, including domestic violence, early marriage, and gender-based violence, as well as information on social media, were investigated promptly, psychological and legal support was provided to the victims, and cooperation was carried out in this field with relevant authorities.

Within the framework of the GANHRI Annual Meeting, the Ombudsman also attended the thematic session on “NHRIs and persons with disabilities.” She held meetings with officials of the GANHRI and the ENNHRI, and exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation.
