A forum on the theme “Sovereignty and Constitution: With Youth, Toward Tomorrow” was organized

A forum on the theme “Sovereignty and Constitution: With Youth, Toward Tomorrow” was jointly organized by  the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner and the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

The Rector of the University, Kamal Abdulla, while opening the ceremony, stated that since the state’s independence was restored, special importance has been given to the process of building a legal state and significant accomplishments have been acquired.

K. Abdulla also noted that the maintenance of national values and shaping legal awareness take an important role in the future development of society. He added that such gatherings will have a major impact on increasing legal knowledge of youth, understanding civic acountability and demonstration of an active social atittude.

Speaking at the event, the Ombudsman, Sabina Aliyeva, brought to the attention of the participants that ensuring human rights and promoting sustainable democratic development are among the key duties of our state, highlighting the active participation of everyone, including young people, in this regard.

The Commissioner noted that the discussions held and the proposals put forward during the forum would lay the groundwork for raising youth awareness on issues related to the Constitution and sovereignty, and emphasized that such events are important for the development of legal consciousness and legal culture among young people.

The Ombudsperson stated that the Constitution of Azerbaijan, authored directly by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, forms the foundation of the national legal system, and that the Constitution sets the basis for the development of Azerbaijan as a legal state. The Commissioner noted that, as a result of the statehood strategy defined by the Great Leader and successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev, the territories that had been under occupation for nearly thirty years have been liberated, and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state have been fully restored.

S. Aliyeva said that the period from May 18 to June 18 has been declared “Human Rights Month” in our country. She noted that, within the framework of this month, a series of awareness-raising events dedicated to human rights are being held. In particular, taking into account that the year 2025 has been declared the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” in our country, special emphasis is being placed on promoting national constitutional values and the rule of law during these events.

Many others made speeches related to the topic. The speakers spoke about the work done in our country under the leadership of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to ensure and protect human rights, as well as the adoption of the first Constitution after the restoration of our state independence and the legal reforms implemented in our country.
