
During "Human Rights Month," the Office of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan and the Naftalan City Executive Authority collaborated to organize an educational event to mark the "Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty" in Naftalan.
Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva, head of Naftalan City Executive Authority Vugar Novruzov, staff of the Ombudsman Office, and representatives from other state agencies took part in the event.
In their opening remarks, Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, and Vugar Novruzov, Head of the Naftalan City Executive Authority, wished success to the event.
The Ombudsman said that complex legal reforms were implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, that the first "State Program on the Protection of Human Rights" was approved on June 18, 1998, and that the protection of human rights became one of the primary focuses of state policy.
She said that President Ilham Aliyev, who successfully continued and developed this policy, established June 18 as Human Rights Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan by his Decree dated June 18, 2007, and that in connection with this significant day, the Ombudsman traditionally declares May 18 - June 18 as "Human Rights Month" in our country every year.
During this month-long campaign, the Ombudsman said that educational events covering topical issues related to the protection of human rights were organized across the country, and extensive legal advocacy work was carried out. She also highlighted how today's event serves those very goals.
Then, the representatives of the Ombudsman Office made presentations and speeches about ensuring and promoting the right to equality and preventing discrimination, the Ombudsman's activities in ensuring the right of access to information, and the role of the Ombudsman in monitoring the promotion, protection, and provision of human rights and freedoms.
In conclusion, the participants' questions were answered, and an extensive discussion of the topics was held.
