The legal education events are continued throughout the “Human Rights Month” declared by the Ombudsman

An event on “Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Prisoners” was organized by the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice and Academy of Justice during the “Human Rights Month,” declared by the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva.  

The large-scale event was attended by the managerial staff of the Penitentiary Institutions, the members of the National Preventive Group, as well as head of the Department for Prevention of Torture, Vugar Heydarov, the head of the Unit in that department, Raida Amirbayova. 

Underlining effective cooperation of the Ombudsman institution and agencies that participated in the event, the information about penal enforcement legislation, alignment with international standards, and achievements in the related field, as well as the work that was carried out by the Ombuds institution, as an effective legal mechanism, was provided to the attention of the participants. 

Furthermore, the listeners were informed that the Azerbaijan ombuds institution has been designated as a national preventive mechanism in accordance with the Presidential relevant Order on the implementation of the OPCAT and that in order to more effectively implement these functions, monitoring visits are conducted to the places where persons cannot leave at their free will, and their results, by sharing relevant national and international experiences.
