The participants of the International Symposium visited Guba

The Participants of the International Symposium of Ombudsmen, held in Baku at the initiative of the Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan, visited the Guba district.

The foreign guests first visited the monument to the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev erected in Guba and paid tribute to his memory.

Then, they visited the Guba "ASAN Service" Center and got acquainted with the services provided to citizens and the activities of the center.

Later, the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex and the area of the mass grave were visited, and flowers were laid.

During the visit, the participants were informed about the historical background of genocide committed by Armenians against our people throughout our republic in the past century, as well as about the Guba genocide cemetery. It was reported that the mass grave was discovered on April 1, 2007 during earthworks in the area, and then extensive research was conducted at the mass grave by employees of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.

It was noted that as a result of the research, it was determined that the mass grave was related to the genocide committed by Armenians against the civilian population in 1918.

Later, the participants recorded their impressions in a memory book at the complex.

During interviews with local media, the guests expressed their regret regarding such criminal acts committed here against peace and humanity, and said that they will widely enlighten their people about the facts they witnessed in their countries, as well as in the international organizations they represent.
