The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan met with the German Federal Commissioner

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, met with the Federal Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Germany, Lars Castellucci. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federal Republic of Germany Nasimi Aghayev.

The Ombudsman gave a thorough overview of the work being done to protect human rights and freedoms, including the NPM activities, the work to protect the rights of children and PWDs, access to information, ensuring the right to equality and preventing discrimination, and the recent amendments made to the Constitutional Law regarding the expansion of the Ombudsman's mandate.

Speaking about the mine terrorism committed by Armenia in our liberated territories, the Ombudsman stated that the existing mine problem poses serious threats to people's right to live safely, that children and women are among those affected by mines, and that it hinders the return of former IDPs to their homes and the construction work carried out in the region. The Ombudsman drew attention to the fact that, despite repeated appeals, accurate mine maps have not yet been submitted to our country.

Sabina Aliyeva said that about 4,000 of our compatriots went missing during the First Karabakh War, who also pointed out that we have not yet received information regarding the whereabouts of those individuals.

During the meeting, the guest's questions were answered in detail, and the meeting continued as a bilateral discussion. Both sides expressed their interest in mutual cooperation.
