Ombudsman met with the Delegation of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco

The Human Rights Commissioner of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, received the Delegation of the Members of the Thematic Group in Charge of Evaluating Literacy Programs at the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco. 

During the meeting, the Ombudsman gave extensive information on the reforms carried out in our country to protect human rights and freedoms, the national legal framework, existing legal protection mechanisms, the Ombudsman’s mandate, and her activities in the field of the protection of the rights and freedoms.     

Underscoring the importance of international cooperation, S. Aliyeva, said that ombuds institutions and NHRIs of Azerbaijan and Morocco have close relations in the framework of bilateral, regional and international organizations. 

The Ombudsman informed the guests about education opportunities created for the vulnerable groups of the population, including those with limited health capacities and people detained in places where they cannot leave at their own free will. She also said that the “Action Plan on Increasing Quality of Vocational Training in Penitentiary Institutions and Improving the Existing Infrastructure for 2025-2030 years” was approved by the Presidential Order. The Ombudsman also spoke about measures taken to consistently maintain a high level of literacy of the population in our country.  

The Ombudsman brought to the attention the range of educational events organized for shaping the legal culture and legal thinking of society and that, in her annual reports, a number of proposals and recommendations were put forward to ensure the effective protection and realization of human rights and freedoms, including the right to education.

The delegation members thanked the Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva for her sincere reception and highly appreciated the achievements in the protection and promotion of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan, including the right to education.

The parties exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest.
