The Ombudsman initiated holding an educational event   on “Protection of the Right to Information” in Khankendi

The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan initiated to hold an educational event, “Protection of the right to information” was conducted during the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” at Karabakh University. 

The event organized in Khankendi is aimed at increasing awareness of the right to information, legal regulation and practical application of this right. The event was attended by employees of the special representative offices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Khankendi city, Aghdara, Khojali, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Khojavend, Shusha districts; information holding state bodies operating in these areas; and academic staff of the Karabakh University.

At the event, Vüsal Safarov, the senior officer of the Presidential Special Representative’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, and Fariz Ahmadov, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Karabakh University, delivered opening speeches, shared their views on the topic, and provided information on the work being carried out in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur.

Later, Lamiya Zeynalova, Head of the Department for the Protection of the Right to Information at the Ombudsman Office, along with other staff members of the Office, made presentations. They provided information about the specifics of the Ombudsman’s oversight of how information holders fulfill their obligations arising from the requirements of the Law “On Access to Information”of the Republic of Azerbaijan.  

The participants were informed about the protection and promotion of the right of access to information, the review and handling of complaints about violations of this right, the Ombudsman’s authority to draw up protocols, and the implementation of monitoring and analysis. Participants were also provided with detailed information on the historical development of the right to information and the international treaties related to it.

At the end of the event, a discussion was held, and the participants' questions were answered.
