The Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva received Prof. Dr. Ergin Ergül, Dean at the Ankara Medipol University, the prominent lawyer from Türkiye, international human rights expert and Nadir Adilov, a Chairman of the Board of the Mediation Council.
At the meeting, issues of the protection of human rights and freedoms, the development of mediation institution, the learning and applying of international experience, and the pros of cooperation in the field of human rights education, the legal aspects of AI in the modern era, and the existing opportunities and ethical issues were discussed.
The Ombudsperson noted that AI-supported technologies created new opportunities for protecting human rights and strenghening public control mechanisms. She emphasized that the transformation to the AI concept must stipulate protecting human rights and minimizing negative impacts of technological development on human rights, as well as legal and normative frameworks and technological capabilities that should complement each-other.
While presenting his newly published and translated into Azerbaijani scientific work-a book titled “Artificial Intelligence and Law” (“Yapay zeka ve hukuk”), Prof. Ergin Ergül briefed on its main content. He said that the book broadly covered the topics related to the protection of human rights in the context of new challenges, development trends in international law, and innovative approaches. He also thanked the Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva for her support in the translation of the book.
In the course of the meeting, human rights initiatives and perspectives of future collaboration were also focused on.
