The Twenty-Sixth Meeting of the Board of Directors and Eighteenth Meeting of the General Assembly were held in Nanjing City of the People's Republic of China with the organization of China’s National Supervisory Commission, Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, and the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA). Sabina Aliyeva, the Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan, participated in the abovementioned meetings in the capacity of an AOA vice-president.
During the meeting, a 2024-2025 Report on the Activity of the AOA, as well as an audit report was approved, and an Action Plan for 2025-2026 has been discussed. A decision was made to hold the next 27th Meeting of the Board of Directors in Hong Kong. While emphasizing the active activity of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman Institution, the Executive Secretary of the Association noted that trainings and webinars organized by the Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan have made a significant contribution to the exchange of experiences among the member institutions and capacity building for specific human rights skills. He also reiterated the visit of the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson to the Association’s Resource Center based in Islamabad and stressed the special role of the projects initiated by Sabina Aliyeva in strengthening the regional cooperation.
Noting AOA as an important platform from the perspective of the protection and promotion of human rights in the region, the Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, said that her institution will further actively participate in future endeavors of the organization. She also emphasized the importance of joint initiatives and webinars to share best practices in the field of the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and the prevention of discrimination and corruption, in particular.
