A meeting with the Council of Europe anti-torture Committee (CPT) was held in the Ombudsman Office

The National Preventive Group (NPG) held a meeting with the representatives of the Council of Europe Committee for the Prevention of Torture, Inhuman, and Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), who are on an official visit to Azerbaijan, atthe Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan. 

At the meeting, the delegation was broadly informed about human rights reforms carried out at the national level, the Ombudsman’s mandate, her national preventive mechanism (NPM) activities, work done to advance the legal framework, and good practices.    

It was noted that the Ombudsman’s NPG continues its regular monitoring visits to institutions where people cannot leave at their own free will; recommendations are made to improve the current situation; and capacity-building seminars are held for the employees of competent state institutions. Furthermore, the delegation was briefed on the effective cooperation established with the relevant international organizations, state institutions, civil society members, and foreign NPMs. 

At the meeting, an exchange of views was held on issues of mutual interest, and questions were answered.
