Ombudsman received the Delegation of the HREIT, led by the Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun

The Delegation of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (HREIT), led by the Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun, are on a working visit to our country.

Within the framework of the visit, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, a group of staff members of the Office, the Chairperson of the HREIT, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun, and the delegation, as well as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to our country, Birol Akgul, visited the Alley of Honor, the Alley of Martyrs and the Turkish Martyrdom in Baku.

First, the grave of the National Leader was visited in the Alley of Honor, flowers were laid in front of it and his memory was honored with deep respect.

The memory of a well-known ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva was also commemorated with respect and flowers were laid at her grave.

The delegation also visited the Alley of Martyrs and the Turkish Martyrdom in Baku and expressed their deep respect for the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Later, Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva received the delegation led by the Chairperson of HREIT at the Ombudsman’s Office. Ambassador of Türkiye to Azerbaijan, Birol Akgun also took part in the meeting.

During the meeting, the Ombudsman welcomed the guests and gave them detailed information about her mandate and the multifaceted activities carried out in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms.

Speaking about cooperation with international organizations, as well as with ombudsman and national human rights institutions, S. Aliyeva noted the close cooperation with the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, implementation of joint projects, and emphasized the importance of further developing these relations.

The Ombudsman stated that the two brotherly states always support each other in international organizations and at the events held at the international level.

Presentations reflecting the activities of the Ombudsman in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, including the fact-finding missions carried out during the war and post-war periods, as well as the special reports, statements, and appeals prepared on the basis of the results of those missions, were delivered to the attention of the guests, and their questions were answered.

The Chairperson of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Sabina Aliyeva for the sincere reception, and emphasized that he would strengthen his efforts to continue the cooperation relations and exchanging positive experiences established over the years.

At the end, both parties expressed satisfaction with the close cooperation existing between the two countries in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, and a comprehensive exchange of views was held on the prospects for further collaboration.

Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Altun and the delegation also got acquainted with the conditions at the Citizens’ Reception Center and gave interviews to local TV channels.
