A visit was conducted to the shelter for the victims of trafficking in persons

As per the assignment of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, Ombudsman’s National Preventive Group (NPG) members conducted an unannounced visit to a shelter for victims of trafficking in persons under the supervision of the Department for Combating Human Trafficking of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

During the visit, an inspection was conducted in the facility’s dormitory, medical, kitchen, and cooking areas. The residents of the shelter were interviewed in confidential manner. The interviewed persons were provided with application forms to the Ombudsman and detailed information about the 916 Call Center, which operates 24 hours a day.

It was found that the facility ensures adequate conditions for the normal accommodation for victims of human trafficking, guaranteeing their safety. The victims are provided with food and medicine, and appropriate facilities are in place to offer them medical, psychological, social, and legal assistance.

At the end of the visit, a meeting was held with the management and staff of the shelter, and informative legal discussions were conducted.
