It is well known that on 17 November 2015, UNESCO designated 28 September as the International Day for Access to Information, and this date’s tenth anniversary was marked in 2025.
According to the Constitutional Law on the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan, the Ombudsperson oversees the performance of duties by the state institutions, municipalities, public legal entities, and their officials arising from the norms of the Law on Access to Information.
It must be noted that since 2023, the Office of the Ombudsperson in Azerbaijan is a full member of the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC), which enjoys a great reputation for ensuring the right to information and unites information commissioners, other ombudspersons in charge of other fields and other stakeholders in order to protect and promote public access to information.
Ahead of this international day, at the invitation of the International Conference of Information Commissioners (ICIC) Transparency and Access to Information Network’s (RTA) Gender and Vulnerable Groups Working Group and partners from Buenos Aires, the Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva joined the global campaign “Tu Info, Tu Derecho,” (Your Info, Your Rights,) which convened all countries and considers important challenges. Thus, by participating in this initiative, she supported efforts to promote the global significance of the right to information, increase public awareness, and reinforce international advocacy for protection of this right. The photo collage, which includes the image of the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson, and was prepared as a part of this campaign, was shared on a number of social media platforms of the Ibero-American States.
