The Ombudsperson’s representatives conducted an on-site investigation in the place of the massive burial within the fact-finding mission

The Ombudsperson of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, constantly focuses on protecting the rights of victims of Armenia’s crimes against humanity and war crimes, including missing persons and their family members.

Mass graves discovered during excavations in the liberated territories once again prove Armenia’s war crimes.

The measures and the searches have resulted in the reveal of a number of important facts in recent days. According to the information of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostage, and Missing Persons, along with witness testimonies, more than 10 human remains, assumed to belong to Azerbaijani military servicemen, were discovered as a result of searches conducted in the area of the Ballıgaya village of the Aghdara district, at a high location that had been utilized as a combat position.

According to international humanitarian law, the collection of information about the fate of missing persons and the rights of their relatives to know the truth and receive information must be ensured. The Azerbaijani Ombudsperson carries out relevant measures and fact-finding missions to obtain information about the fate of our missing persons, including the restoration of human rights and freedoms violated as a result of war crimes committed by Armenia. Within the framework of the Ombudsperson's next fact-finding mission, the Office’s employees, Mugalib Mahmudov and Sevinj Shener conducted a relevant investigation in the territory of the Balligaya village of the Agdara district and collected factual materials.

Based on the materials collected from mass graves, a relevant report on the findings will be prepared by the Ombudsperson and shared with the public and international organizations.
