The Ombudsman Office organized awareness activities on child rights in the liberated areas

During the “Child Rights Month” announced by the Ombudsperson, public awareness-raising activities were organized in the capital city and districts on a regular basis.

As part of the ongoing efforts in this direction, the ombuds institution awareness activities in the secondary schools started operating in the liberated territories, such as the cities and districts of Khankendi, Khojali, and Aghdam.  

The events were held with the participation of children and teaching staff at Nizami Ganjavi secondary school No. 4 in Khankendi city, Ballıja village secondary school in Khojaly district, secondary school No. 1 in Khojaly district, Aykol Manas village secondary school in Aghdam district, and Kangarli secondary school in Aghdam district. The events were dedicated to the topics "Children's rights and protection mechanisms", "The role of education workers in protecting children's rights".

Staff of the Child Rights Protection Unit Nigar Agayeva, Ilaha Afganli, and Azer Isali informed the participants about the rights and responsibilities of children, protection of them from violence and harmful influences, threats in the digital environment, early marriage, exploitation of child labor, and other issues. They were also enlightened on protection mechanisms, including the activities of the Ombudsperson in this relevant field. 

Furthermore, discussions were held with the teaching staff on the protection of children from all forms of discrimination, the inadmissibility of violence against them, the responsibilities of educators, and existing problems in this area and the way to solve them.

Overall, more than 450 students and over 60 teaching staff benefited from the training sessions. The secondary school establishments and children were provided with educational publications on the protection of children's rights prepared by the ombuds institution.

In the course of the visit, and as an independent monitoring mechanism for monitoring and promoting the implementation of the CRC, the conditions created in kindergarten No. 1 of Khankendi city, and the general  situation of ensuring children's rights were inspected. The awareness talks were held with the management of the facility.
