Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva had a meeting with the President of European Network of the Ombudspersons for Children

The Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, had a meeting with the President of the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC), People’s Advocate for the Rights of the Child of Moldova, Vasile Coroi. 


At the meeting, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva pointed out the importance of the ongoing partnership between the Ombudsman Institution of Azerbaijan and ENOC in promoting and protecting human rights and freedoms. She also stressed the importance of expanding this cooperation in the future. The Ombudsperson briefed the guest on the current state of children’s rights in the country, highlighting the efforts undertaken to protect the rights of different groups of children, particularly those affected by the consequences of war. 


She also highlighted that, following recent legislative amendments and institutional reforms to strengthen the protection of children’s rights in Azerbaijan, the Ombudsman Institution has become a full member of ENOC. Emphasizing the importance of this achievement, the Ombudsperson shared her recommendations for further enhancing cooperation and joint activities within the ENOC framework.


Nigar Aghayeva, Head of the Child Rights Protection Unit at the ombuds office, provided a detailed overview of the Ombudsperson’s role in protecting children’s rights, the work of the Independent Monitoring Group on the Implementation of the CRC, and the initiatives, recommendations, and successful practices in this area.


In turn, the ENOC President thanked Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva for the warm reception, underlining the value of the ongoing cooperation and stressing the need to further enhance collaboration between ombuds institutions to promote and protect children’s rights.


In conclusion, both sides highly appreciated the constructive exchange of views and highlighted the importance of developing and implementing joint human rights initiatives, with particular focus on the promotion and protection of children’s rights in the future.
