The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, continues to closely monitor issues related to the repatriation of citizens of Azerbaijan living in difficult conditions abroad, as well as the protection of their rights and fundamental freedoms.
On 5 December 2025, staff members of the Ombudsman’s Office met with citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who had been repatriated to the country from the Syrian Arab Republic.
During the meeting, the Ombudsman Office employees assessed the status of the protection of the rights of one woman and three children who had been repatriated and placed in a relevant social service institution under the Social Services Agency of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population. The management and staff of the institution reported to the Ombudsman’s employees about social services being delivered to the repatriated individuals.
In the course of the meeting, certain problems were found regarding the identity documents for the children, their right to education, and the restoration of the woman’s access to education. The repatriated individuals were given advice on how to protect their rights and support their integration into society. Furthermore, they were given comprehensive information about the Ombudsman’s mandate and the application procedures to the Ombudsman.
